Shortlisted for the 2017 Theatre Book PrizeWhat is it about theatre; compared to other kinds of cultural representation; which provokes such a powerful reaction? Theatrical Unrest tells the compelling tales of ten riots whose cause lies on stage. It looks at the intensity and evanescence of the live event and asks whether theatre shares its unrepeatable quality with history.Tracing episodes of unrest in theatrical history from an Elizabethan uprising over Shakespeares Richard II to Sikhs in revolt at Gurpreet Kaur Bhattis Behzti; Sean McEvoy chronicles a selection of extreme public responses to this inflammatory art form. Each chapter provides a useful overview of the structure and documentation of one particular event; juxtaposing eyewitness accounts with newspaper reports and other contemporary narratives. Theatrical Unrest is an absorbing account of the explosive impact of performance; and an essential read for anyone interested in theatrersquo;s often violent history.

This book features the cards in his collection that feature Amish people; their buggies; homes; farms. As a person who grew up around Amish people; I appreciate that the author made the effort to try to dispel misconceptions about hex signs being used to chase away eveil spirits; and that Penna. Dutch people speak English in a backwards fashion. There is very little text in the book. The point is to show off his postcards; and to talk about postcard history. The only text is in the form of captions for the postcards. It took me about an hour to read the entire book; so I did think the price for the Kindle edition was a tad high given the brevity of the book. However; I got this ebook from my library; so I have nothing to complain about.
