Better sources elsewhere.By countsheepTypically hyperbolic; overwrought Italian prose; and presents lots of nonsense as fact. Ms. Vigo may be skilled at weaving byssus thread; but she is also clearly weaving a personal myth; with an interest in self-promotion; even calling herself (here and elsewhere) the "only" person still weaving sea silk. Thats simply not true. In her own town of S. Antioco; Sardinia; there are others. You can read about them in more reliable and less fantastical sources; such as the Swedish website (in English) known as the Sea Silk Project. There you will find actual scholarship; compiling what little is known from various sources on sea silk; from antiquity. I wish this author would have searched that site before compiling this book. They are also mentioned in "Spirals in Time: The Secret Life and Curious Afterlife of Seashells" By Helen Scales; published May 2015.Im annoyed that I spent money on this. I wish it had been presented as a work of fiction; then I might not feel so ripped off and could have enjoyed this womans personal myth creation. Im also concerned; now that Ive read other sources where Vigo tells slightly different versions of her personal stories--she likes to keep her methods secret; possibly because shes breaking the law with regard to the byssus; a protected species. She claims her methods dont kill them; but wont let anyone accompany her to know for sure. I wish the Italian authorities would investigate to make sure.
