It describes in detail the many traditions associated with Russian (and by extension. Slavic in general) courtship and wedding practices. providing colored illustrations. with older BW photos. if no colored were available. The author cites all the traditions she references. giving fairly precise dates when they were first mentioned in the literature. and describes the reasons behind them.True. it is in Russian. But given our readily-available access to online translation services. that really should not be a problem for the serious student of history. Plus. having the Russian names for everything at hand makes it easy to do further research on any particular topic.Wedding traditions were incredibly important in medieval Slavic society (as in most societies). and much of the interaction between people and within the community centered on the bringing together of a young man and woman to take their place in society as a married unit and productive household.
