14 Modern Contest Solos: For Snare Drum

[DOC] 14 Modern Contest Solos: For Snare Drum by John S. Pratt in Arts-Photography

Description

This is an urgently needed book ndash; as the question of choreographing behavior enters into realms outside of the aesthetic domains of theatrical dance; Susan Foster writes a thoroughly compelling argument. ndash; Andreacute; Lepecki; New York University"May well prove to be one of Susan Fosterrsquo;s most important works." ndash; Ramsay Burt; De Montford University; UKWhat do we feel when we watch dancing? Do we "dance along" inwardly? Do we sense what the dancerrsquo;s body is feeling? Do we imagine what it might feel like to perform those same moves? If we do; how do these responses influence how we experience dancing and how we derive significance from it?Choreographing Empathy challenges the idea of a direct psychophysical connection between the body of a dancer and that of their observer. In this groundbreaking investigation; Susan Foster argues that the connection is in fact highly mediated and influenced by ever-changing sociocultural mores. Foster examines the relationships between three central components in the experience of watching a dance ndash; the choreography; the kinesthetic sensations it puts forward; and the empathetic connection that it proposes to viewers. Tracing the changing definitions of choreography; kinesthesia; and empathy from the 1700s to the present day; she shows how the observation; study; and discussion of dance have changed over time. Understanding this development is key to understanding corporeality and its involvement in the body politic.

To play these cleanly at the recommended tempos is not easy. Each piece has one of two moves that are very challenging. at least for me. and really identify weak spots. For example. I found that my left drag at the beginning of a right ratamacue is a little too long at higher tempos. so I had to focus on that to play one of the pieces smoothly. Working diligently on these really pays of on strengthening your rudiments and putting them together in different combinations4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. 14 Modern Contest Solos for Snare DrumBy Drum 2475 starsThese snare drum solos are AWESOME! Challenging. MUSICAL (yes all caps). and FUN to play. Each solo contains many rudiments which are listed at the bottom of each piece. The phrasing used is great. alot of "over the bar" phrases. and sweet sticking patterns. GREAT book. if you do not own it and want to work on your chops this book will help tremendously. One of the best things about this book is that the solos sound awesome. are musical. and are FUN to play. These are not boring rudimental exercises like so many other snare drum solos. these are (again) VERY well written. musical. fun sounding and fun to play. One of the BEST books ever written for snare drum solos. A GREAT price. for what it is actually worth it is practically free.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
