[DOC] 33 Movies to Restore Your Faith in Humanity: Ebert's Essentials by Roger Ebert in Arts-Photography

Description

Rudolf Laban (1879 ndash; 1958) was a pioneer in dance and movement; who found an extraordinary range of application for his ideas; from industry to drama; education and therapy.? Laban believed that you can understand about human beings by observing how they move; and devised two complimentary methods of notating the shape and quality of movements. The Laban Sourcebook offers a comprehensive account of Labanrsquo;s writings. It includes extracts from his five books in English and from his four works in German; written in the 1920s and translated here for the first time.? This book draws on archival research in England and Germany to chart the development of Labanrsquo;s groundbreaking ideas through a variety of documents; including letters; articles; transcripts of interviews; and his unpublished Effort and Recovery.?? It covers:The beginning of his career in Germany and Switzerland in the 1910s. His astonishing rise to fame in Germany in the 1920s as a dance teacher; choreographer and creator of public dance events.Following his move to England in 1938; the application of his ideas to drama; education; industry; and therapy. Each extract has a short preface providing contextual background; and highlighting and explaining key terms. Passages have been selected and are introduced by many of the worldrsquo;s leading Laban scholars.

A collection of reviews to restore your faith in humanity.By AlGIts difficult to know what made Roger Eberts simple prose the premier exemplar of movie criticism in the U.S. But he is indisputably that. His reviews are often literature. marked by a very decent human being behind them. The same thing might be said about his several collections. with titles "I hated your movie". Because what he hated about certain movies was their break with the basic contract that creators have with their audience. What the "I hated..." reviews have in addition is his humor and sense of irony. not needed in this collection of reviews. His absence is a loss for all us if he was. like he was for me. the reviewer I turned to first.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A must read for movie goersBy Book DenI have seen most of the movies Roger Ebert reviews in this book. I agree with his insights regarding those movies. Now I have new movies to watch because I want to see all the movies he discusses that I havent seen yet. His reviews are clear and intelligent with a great deal of humor. If you love movies. do yourself a favor and read this book.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.
