(Limelight). One of the greatest mezzo-sopranos of postwar opera; Christa Ludwig recalls her long and lustrous career singing for two generations of adoring audiences; under the batons of such conductors as Klemperer; Karajan; Solti; and Bernstein; in the great opera houses of the world. Her memoirs make clear why Bernstein said of her; "She is simply the best; and the best of all possible human beings."

I truly wish that I could review the book content itself and the Kindle version separately. The Kindle version is shown as having colour images. It does NOT. The set-up is a little cumbersome. but that is based on the ability to change type size. You can have one OR the other. but not both. Id rather have changeable type and uncomfortable layout personally. However. the badly contrasted and black and white images when beautiful colour photos are represented as the product are inexcusable!! Frankly. its dishonest! Also. when I attempt to access the Table of Contents to locate specific portions of the book (Frog Closures). my copy hangs up. freezes and sends me back to my Kindle home screen. How useful is a resource book without a TOC? Not very. If I must either A) Memorize the TOC; B) PRINT a copy of the TOC for a strictly E-Book; or C) scroll through 700+ pages of material to locate a single design.... Well. imagine THAT frustration. I purchased this book to use. Returning it is simply not an option for me.. Nor is purchasing a one hundred dollar pre-owned copy.Poor form. ! Poor form indeed!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Who ever thought of making your own buttons!By AMMThe photographs throughout the book are so beautiful that I can see them cut up and framed. The buttons. reminiscent of the days of wealth and professionally tailored female fashions. seem to be relatively easy to duplicate for yourself. The chapter on "frogs". those beautiful double enclosures that many women still like today. but cannot make themselves and are usually purchased at fabric stores for dress suits. capes and coats. should try making one yourself and save money at the same time. As usual. Nancy does a masterful job with directions that are clear to read. I dont sew anymore. but still think I can make these; then will pass the book on to my daughters who still sew.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great Book. I recently needed buttons to match some ...By Mary A.Great Book. I recently needed buttons to match some cushion fabric and couldnt find what I wanted. After reading a magazine article about the history of threaded "deaths head" buttons. I decided to try my hand at making them. This book had all the information I needed to make these and many other versions of threaded buttons. While at first I found it necessary to flip between different sections of the book to see the illustrations to which the instructions referred. the instructions were clear and easy to follow. After some practice I was very successful at making several button that now adorn my cushions.
