52 Hymn Story Devotions

[DOC] 52 Hymn Story Devotions by Lucy Adams at Arts-Photography

Description

Guy Maddin is one of Canadas most celebrated and original filmmakers; the director of such delirious films as Tales from the Gimli Hospital; Careful; Dracula: Pages from a Virgins Diary; The Saddest Music in the World and My Winnipeg. Few know; however; that he is just as gifted a writer; and his resolutely purple prose; as eccentric and enchanting as his film work; is a true delight. From the Atelier Tovar gathers; in one volume; the best of Maddins writing: his journalism (originally published in the Village Voice; Cinema Scope; Film Comment and points beyond); unpublished short stories and film treatments (including the riotous Child Without Qualities); and selections; both lurid and illuminating; from the filmmakers personal journals. Here are Maddins feverish musings on hockey; the Osmonds; divas of the Italian silent cinema; Bollywood; his own twisted biography; and much; much more. What emerges finally is both a fragrant potpourri and a treasure trove; a singular portrait of this very unique artist.

I immediately ordered it. When it arrived. I simply could not put it down. I love the old hymns and reading the stories about them tugged at my heartstrings! Every page brings back to me a lovely memory of my childhood--hearing my dad preaching and singing those endearing songs. Lucy has skillfully compiled all the information on the hymns and shaped each story into a very moving tribute to its author. This book is a very special addition to my life and my home.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Delightfully Informative DevotionalBy Kindle CustomerWhat a treasure this wee book is! Each story devotion to me is like a pebble being tossed into crystal clear waters creating ripples of new understanding. life. appreciation for. and connection to the hymns Ive grown up with. They are stories I can share with my children to enhance their worship experience. The human connection behind the words and music along with Mrs. Adams personal accounts just may serve as a seed planted towards another great hymn. The reader is encouraged that all it takes is one thought. pen in hand. and the desire to grow in their journey of faith.
