A Century of Hairstyles

[PDF] A Century of Hairstyles by Pamela Church Gibson at Arts-Photography

Description

From the author of the widely acclaimed graphic novel Here; awarded the 2016 Prix Dor for best graphic album at Angoulecirc;me; a new graphic work that celebrates another aspect of his incomparable genius.Sequential Drawings gathers together more than a decade of McGuires witty and endlessly inventive spotsmdash;a veritable short-story collectionmdash;each drawing given its own spread; which; in turn; assures for the reader the experience of surprise and delight that the drawings unfailingly deliver. Richard McGuires first series of "spot" drawings debuted in The New Yorker in February 2005 for the magazines 80th anniversary issue. Spot drawings; scattered among the magazines text; had been a long-running feature of The New Yorker; and over the years; many artists had contributed them. But McGuire was the first to conceive them as a sequence; and his drawings were something altogether new: deceptively simple images that imbued the series with movement and narrative; telling their own unexpected stories. (In a 3-7/8 x 5-7/8 trim size. With illustrations throughout and an introduction by Luc Sante)From the Hardcover edition.

The Libertines ARE BACK TOGETHER in 2015!!By TheseAreTheGoodOldDaysI started reading this book at 10pm and read all through the night; finishing at 6am. Crazy!! I still cannot believe that happened as I value my sleep above all else. But it was worth it; and I just couldnt put it down. I must admit I am a bit infatuated with Pete Doherty. To be more exact; I am in love with his mind. He is such a creative; artistic; poetic individual; albeit a tortured soul. He has charisma by the boatloads and together with his ex-bandmate and "bromance" partner Carl Barat it is hard to get enough of them. Their chemistry together is just unparalleled; highly entertaining. It actually makes me believe in love again. It wasnt just music; it was an ideal... something raw; powerful; brave... something to believe in. Well sail on the good ship Albion until we find Arcadia; some day... the quest is what truly matters though. This was a great account of the early years because it was compiled by a friend of The Libertines; who was in the midst of a lot of the chaos. It is presented in the actual recorded words of Peter; Carl many others presented in the story; which means that it is not always proper grammar or even complete thoughts; but it feels very real. A fascinating insight into their feelings and perceptions on what was happening during their rise to fame and heartbreaking demise. Everyone would have expected Peter to be dead of a heroin overdose by now; but against all odds in the year 2015 he is clean and The Libertines ARE BACK TOGETHER!! Who woulda thunk it; all original members too. Theyre doing a 2016 European tour so if you love this band as much as I do; you may actually get a chance to see them live (they are fabled for their live shows). Great read!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very good yet outdatedBy A CustomerGreat first hand accounts but not a lot of detail in latter parts; probably bc this book is a bit outdated2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. I liked ItBy G. harryThe Libertines cds; I play them a lot. I enjoyed reading about the band. It is set up where the author presents what I assume are direct quotes from the bands members; and people close to the band; and then he writes his own conclusions. If you are a fan of the Libertines; or music in general; you might enjoy it. I recommend it if you like the libertines at least. Thanks for reading my review!
