A Guide to Newport's Cliff Walk: Tales of Seaside Mansions the Gilded Age Elite

[ePub] A Guide to Newport's Cliff Walk: Tales of Seaside Mansions the Gilded Age Elite by Ed Morris in Arts-Photography

Description

Life on the West Virginia frontier was a daily struggle for survival. For Phebe Tucker Cunningham; that meant the loss of her four children at the hands of the Wyandot tribe and being held captive for three years until legendary renegades Simon Girty and Alexander McKee arranged her freedom. Author Robert Thompson recounts the harrowing story of this courageous woman; from her marriage at Pricketts Fort in 1780 to her return to the shores of the Monongahela. Thompson describes in vivid detail early colonial life in the Alleghenies and the ways of the Wyandot; providing historical context for this unforgettable saga.

His mother plant a seed in his life that no one can ever touch. Mr. Haskell had that little beacon giving to him and look what he did with it. A inspiration book for anyone that need nurturing from their parent. This is a great example when you give kids hope at early age ; were it will take them. Thanks Mr. Haskell for your book from your heart to your mom heart.4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. An (Almost) Unbelievable Life - with Lessons LearnedBy CKEI will say that if I had not lived in Amory; Mississippi for seven years AND attended a "Stars Over Mississippi" event I would not believe that Sam Haskell was real. I would have never believed that a guy from a small town in the middle-of-nowhere Mississippi could have made it so big and remain so true to his virtues"Promises I made my Mother" is a refreshing take as a motivational book. It is has the ability to inspire with its humor and genuine take on life. Sam blends the experiences he learned from his mother while growing up in a small southern town to the Tensile Town and how he dealt with many of the worlds most famous celebrities.... people like Kathie Lee Gifford; Dolly Parton; George Clooney; Ray Ramano; Kristie Alley to name a few. Not only did Sam have the ability to represent these celebrities in the Uber competitive world of Hollywood but he was able to build sincere friendships. Many of the stories that Sam shares are classics - such as making a sign for the "Cheer Man" to come to his house or how he worked his way up from working in the mailroom to become one of the most powerful men in television. While I have never met Sam Haskell I can say that I know a lot of people who know him (again I lived in Amory for 7 years) and he is universally respected. I applaud "Promises I Made My Mother" on a few levels; One - It is an outstanding read full of inspiring tidbits of advice on life. Many of the stories and examples are gems. Two - Here is a man who did not forget his roots and how they made him the man that he is. He is as proud of his family and Amory; Ms as they are of him.Final verdict - "Promises I Made My Mother" may not be a best seller - but it should be.5 stars2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The World Needs More Books Like This...By atomictikiI found Sam Haskells "Promises I Made My Mother" just flat out wonderful! Written with grace and skill; it is a joy to read; highly inspirational and makes you feel great/re-assured that people like Mr. Haskell still exist in the world.I dont normally read these kinds of books because they oftentimes come off preachy or saccharine; but Sam Haskell has a great knack for distilling his mothers simple-yet-sage wisdom and relating how living in her image has brought him professional and personal happiness. The book also reads like a love story to not only his mother; but his family; friends and faith and is a real page-turner with so many amazing stories and anecdotes from his extraordinary life.I think this book will really resonate with people and provide a wonderful inspirational support mechanism and blueprint for living a principled life. Thank you Sam Haskell (and mom Mary Kirkpatrick Haskell) for sharing your wonderful vision with the world. It proves that the good guy can win in the end!
