A Guide to the Historic Buildings of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County

[ePub] A Guide to the Historic Buildings of Fredericksburg and Gillespie County by Kenneth Hafertepe in Arts-Photography

Description

Lens of War grew out of an invitation to leading historians of the Civil War to select and reflect upon a single photograph. Each could choose any image and interpret it in personal and scholarly terms. The result is a remarkable set of essays by twenty-seven scholars whose numerous volumes on the Civil War have explored military; cultural; political; African American; womenrsquo;s; and environmental history. The essays describe a wide array of photographs and present an eclectic approach to the assignment; organized by topic: Leaders; Soldiers; Civilians; Victims; and Places. Readers will rediscover familiar photographs and figures examined in unfamiliar ways; as well as discover little-known photographs that afford intriguing perspectives. All the images are reproduced with exquisite care. Readers fascinated by the Civil War will want this unique book on their shelves; and lovers of photography will value the images and the creative; evocative reflections offered in these essays.Contributors: Stephen Berry; William A. Beautiful and Intricate Ocean theme Mandalas ndash; printed on only one side of paperBy iiiireader[[VIDEOID:2c62edd215fe173fb348480920779baf]]This is my first coloring book by artist Wendy Piersall though this is her fourth publication. I am so impressed by her artistic design that I will certainly look at her past books; too. All four of her books are based on mandalas. She incorporates a variety of themes into the mandala form. In this book; the theme is the ocean ndash; fact and fiction. The designs in the book are a wide assortment of subjects. From a sailing ship to a mermaid; from whales to Neptune with his trident; and with a wide assortment of fish and other sea creatures and flora; this book has a nice variety of ocean subjects to color and to enjoy. Most of the designs have intricate details that will require that I use a ultra-fine point pen; marker; or pencil. The mandala format makes this book different from my other ocean coloring book (which is mostly just fish.) While the designs are intricate; they are on the smaller side (as compared to average format coloring books) and will be projects to color when I feel like finishing in fewer days than some of the larger designs take. I like large challenges but some days; I really prefer a smaller design that is pretty and fun to color. There are 30 designs in this smaller than average format book and they are printed on only one side of the page with the back side left blank. The pages are not perforated but as the designs are centered on the page; there is plenty of room to remove a page with a pen knife if you choose to do so.All of my markers bleed through the page. While my gel pens (Fiskars and TekWriter) do not bleed through; they are definitely noticeable from the back side of the page. If I decide to use markers or gel pens; I will place a piece of chipboard or heavyweight paper or two under the page I am working on to keep ink from seeping through.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Amazing circular designs!By MichelleI grew up near the ocean; and actually lived for a while in the South Pacific; so I really like this coloring book. It has lovely designs; all in a circular style; and is good for relaxing. But mostly I enjoy the various nautical designs and themes throughout. My favorites are those with mermaids; sailing ships; and surfboards. I suppose my favorite though is one with waves and small fish; in a yin-yang spiral. The book is softcover; and not too big to carry or bring with you. The designs are consistently drawn; lovely throughout and really enjoyable. I use my sharpest colored pencils for these since most have fine details; so I enjoy that; too. I found this to be a truly delightful all-ages coloring book; and I hope that illustrator Wendy Piersall publishes more soon!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Every image is Original Imaginative with Surprising elements rich in the Flora; Fauna; Myth; and Lore of the ocean that we loveBy Jackie CooperI own all of Wendy Piersallrsquo;s coloring books and look forward to each new publication. I love her original; imaginative; surprising; illustrations with a hand drawn look that my hand just seems to naturally follow. Each of her illustrations is completely original and imaginative with surprising elements; they are carefully detailed and centered; each illustration seems to radiate and flow from the center to its outer edges in a way that inspires and captivates you as you color. In this book Wendy takes us on a journey rich with the flora and fauna walking and growing along the bottom ; swimming through and skimming over the ocean; you will find our most beloved ocean images such as a light house; images from lore and myth including Neptune on his steed with his scepter; Mermaids playing; Ships sailing; even a surf board; Whales; Dolphins frolicking; a Steam punk submarine; Seahorses and fish plus many more; each original with the only thing in common being that you will want to color every single image.1. 30 enchanting; mesmerizing; flowing Illustrations in Wendyrsquo;s imaginative hand drawn flowing art style that your hands naturally follow as you color these images. Printed one per page; on medium weight; bright white paper.2. All markers I tested (Triplus fineliners; fibre point; Bic Mark-it ultra fine; Sharpies ultra fine and Pentel) leak through the pages so I just place a piece of paper under the page I am coloring to prevent damage to the next page.3. This book is small at only 7 frac12;rdquo; x 9 frac14;rdquo;; it is perfect for carrying with you as you travel in your purse; briefcase or suitcase.4. Each illustration is in circular mandala form; centered on the page and averages 6 frac12; ldquo; across; not much smaller than a full sized book.Received a free sample for evaluation and unbiased review.
