Created from the Chicago Tribunes vast archives; Gangsters and Grifters is a collection of photographs featuring infamous criminals; small-time bandits; hoodlums; and more at shocking crime scenes. These vintage glass-plate and acetate negatives were taken from the early 1900s through the 1950s; and they have been largely unseen for generations. That is because most have never been published; only having been witnessed by the photographers and police in the moments after an arrest; crime; or even murder. Included are graphic crime scenes; raw evidence; and depictions of searing emotions; captured on film during a time when photographers were given unprecedented access alongside police. Some photographs resemble film noir movie stills. Some are cartoonish. All feature real people; real drama; and real crimes. Accompanying information about each is included wherever possible; often with archived news stories.Gangsters and Grifters is a powerful; visually stunning look back into the dark story of Chicagos nefarious crime underworld. These fascinating; surprising; and entrancing photos reveal still-unsolved murder mysteries and portraits of notorious gang overlords like John Dillinger and Al Capone. This is a must-have for photography buffs; history lovers; and anyone curious about the seedy underbelly of early 20th-century Chicago.

Not quite easy ie not beginner levelBy Sincerely YoursI would pitch this more at mid intermediate level as you do need to know how to read the sharps and flats! But otherwise a good compression of the original songs and give you enough pace to enjoy the ragtime rhythms! A nice practice material for someone who is seeking to expand their repertoire. Some of the scores are 4 pages; and hence I will need to get this spirally bound. (I do recommend if you are getting a lot of music scores to invest in a binding machines; a good one at that; as it will save you time and money: I did!).12 of 12 people found the following review helpful. Just as advertisedBy G. ErathThis collection was advertised as "easy" but often its a matter of your point of view. The arrangements are easy to play but still sound like ragtime; unlike many books classified as easy but have songs that sound like a childs primer. The only complaint I have is the binding which is not spiral.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This really hit the mark for me. The arrangements ...By Thomas M SeilerThis really hit the mark for me. The arrangements tend to be true to the original. My only criticisms are that some strains are omitted; and some strange choices are made about the arrangements that can actually make parts more complex than the original "unsimplified" versions. I keep an original version nearby and make modifications as necessary.
