"Get out my life; Woman" with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. I remember the impact he had on me then and still. I never get tired of listening to him. Consequently reading through this book was like a pleasant conversation with a favorite and familiar old friend. Dave Celentino does a great job of notating the nuances that make Bloomfields technique so challenging to play. Doug Boduch; who has the unenviable job of reproducing and recording the Bloomfield sound; does a great job on the CD; about as close as we mortals can aspire to ;-) Dave use the term microbends for those quarter-tone bends that "Bloomers" uses to suspend the payoffs to his lines. There is indeed more there than there seems. All in All; Ive waited so long for a book on Bloomfield that Im thrilled to bits on how this first one has come out. Im going through mine every single day trying to get those subleties under my hands and having blast doing it. If you love Bloomfield like I do; you will love this book!!6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Underrated Rock/Blues/Acoustic Guitar VirtuosoBy CiscoIts about time someone wrote a signature guitar lick style on one of the early great rock blues guitarist of all time from the early 60s to the 70s.Guitarist learning the style now and those who play already can study this mans style. I believe he was one of the 1st white guitarist if not thee first to play this way on record. Of course; Bloomfield learned from the blues players electric/acoustic. Before Clapton/Green/Page/Beck etc. he was in the forefront; in my opinion; of this style. Thanks to Mr. Celentano he has done a great job of transcribing Bloomfields recorded playing on some of his best recorded songs. The book is great and the cd.Its too bad he checked out too early as others (Hendrix; etc.). But finally Dave Celentano pays homage in printed page to Mike Bloomfields guitar style that launched waves of up coming guitar greats and others. Its a long time coming but never too late to show where it all began; in my humble opinion; and others who know. Thanks Dave!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Overhwheming and EnlighteningBy Robert B. KiddMichael Bloomfields blues style opened up my ears and touched me as something very special whenI heard him play at the Filmore in 1968 and remember his introduction of Johnny Winter clearly ("this cast is the baddest MF I have ever heard" - it is not on the album). Back then; I was a bass guitarist and so in love with the blues. This book is well put together; brings new insight into Michaels licks. If you love these blues (play em as you please); it is money well spent. The selection of songs is excellent; as is the tablature and corresponding CD tracks. Turn right to "Born in Chicago"; listen and then try to keep up. Overwhelming; in the best way; and enlightening how many scales he used. This is your reason to learn all of the pentatonic scale shapes (for a starter) and to continue to grow with a genre that has so much depth. This book may just help you become a better blues player; but that is on you. For me; it is the right information at the right time.
