In Shakespeare on Theatre; master acting teacher Robert Cohen brilliantly scrutinises Shakespeares implicit theories of acting; paying close attention to the plays themselves and providing a wealth of fascinating historical evidence. What he finds will surprise scholars and actors alike ndash; that Shakespeares drama and his practice as an actor were founded on realism; though one clearly distinct from the realism later found in Stanislavski.Shakespeare on Acting?is an extraordinary introduction to the way the plays articulate a profound understanding of performance and reflect the life and times of a uniquely talented theatre-maker.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Tough. sad and sharpBy SoniaThis is one of my favorite writings of Wilde. He describes the treatment of a woman who has no means and is of little importance. It is a timeless piece of work since this happens in the here and now also. Some of the scenery makes it a period piece but the story is an ongoing issue to deal with everyday.Love to read the banter and the sly commentary of vicious women. the innuendo and subtle insults. Excellent read.
