Il padre di Matteo egrave; un noto finanziere; titolare di interessi in numerose grandi industrie.Il giovane non si sente perograve; attratto dal modo di pensare e di agire del padre; ma si sente portato verso una concezione di vita libera da pregiudizi; vincoli economici; in contrasto quindi con quella dei genitori.Il giovane scopre; in Livia; un mondo sconosciuto in cui intuisce che le sue idee di amore genuino; sincero; libero da convenzioni cui si sente estraneo; troveranno riparo dalla soffocante atmosfera dellrsquo;ambiente famigliare.Matteo; dal momento in cui conosce Livia e gradualmente se ne innamora; perde la timidezza che lrsquo;ascendente dei genitori aveva impresso nel suo animo e prende il coraggio di iniziare; specialmente col padre; un rapporto conflittuale che riesce a portare avanti sempre piugrave; con maggior vigore.Il libro descrive realisticamente lrsquo;ambiente famigliare; la sua sfarzositagrave;; le abitudini in uso da una classe; che a volte si ritiene persino eletta. Il padre finanziere e la madre nobile donna; hanno in animo di far accasare Matteo con la figlia di un altro potente esponente del mondo finanziario; ma trovano nel figlio una tale avversitagrave; da farli desistere dal loro programma.Il libro si addentra nel descrivere; anche sotto il profilo psicologico; piugrave; di un episodio in cui il figlio; ormai deciso a costruirsi una nuova vita con Livia; tiene testa ai voleri del padre e trova sempre piugrave; conforto nel suo rapporto di vero amore con la figlia di un proletario.La storia si conclude nel contesto di aspre lotte sindacali; che hanno protagonista sia il finanziere; quale amministratore di un grosso complesso industriale ed il padre di Livia; delegato sindacale della stessa industria; che nei disordini provocati dalla decisione da parte della societagrave; di portare allrsquo;estero lrsquo;attivitagrave;; evita coscientemente che il padre di Matteo; aggredito dai manifestanti; venga a subire una dura; meritata; ma non lecita; percheacute; violenta; lezione.Lrsquo;autore ha descritto tutte le suddette vicende senza orientamenti estremistici; ma con efficace e serio approfondimento; che ha reso realistico il loro accadere.

Actually; this was a good thing as the book looked as if it should have cost $5.00-$10.00. I was embarrassed. I have bought other paperbacks that were lovely;and they were appropriate to give as gifts. This was not the case for a $45.00 book. I am sorry I gave it as a gift. Lane who was a two-time Tony Award-winning producer. Less of a reference book; this easy to read volume spends early chapters on the Yiddish Theater community which formed in Lower New York when the immigrants arrived at the end of the 19th Century and then moved uptown to form Vaudeville theaters. Many of the vaudeville stars began playing to Jewish customers who patronized the hotels and resorts in the Catskill Mountains. Then they headed for Broadway. In the 1960s ldquo;Fiddler on the Roofrdquo; opened and led to the somewhat less-successful musical ldquo;The Rothschildsrdquo;.Lanr writes in short segments about the theater producers; the composers and the actors. The book ends with the mega hit show ldquo;Spamalotrdquo; and Lane provides the complete lyrics to ldquo;You Wonrsquo;t Succeed on Broadway (unless you have some Jews)rdquo;.There is an index for you to look to see ldquo;who was really Jewishrdquo; (and this will help you find the page where you can get the person ldquo;realrdquo; name. As I said earlier Lane didnrsquo;t do a lot of ldquo;researchrdquo; because the meager Chapter Notes fill just two pages. There is also a three-page ldquo;Bibliographyrdquo; and a short one-page ldquo;Further Reading Listrdquo;.I was really surprised that there were no graphics (photos; charts; ads) in this volume.Itrsquo;s a fun read; and I learned a few things but it falls short on being a true ldquo;reference bookrdquo;; something that the publisher ndash; McFarland ndash; usually does very wellI hope you found this review both informative and helpful.Steve Rammldquo;Anything Phonographicrdquo;
