Takes us there .By Tony BurkysThis is a marvellous companion piece to Recording the Beatles by Kevin Ryan Brian Kehew .Alistair Lawrence also makes us feel as if we are there and part of its history . The sheer volumeof varied and important recordings from this great studio is awe inspiring . A couple of minor points .it seems Geoff Emerick is still considered persona non grata at Abbey Road . He really must have steppedon a few toes . Also . there is a mistake when he quotes some lyrics from the Hoagy Carmichael classic"Rockin Chair " as sung by Paul Robeson . The Lyrics printed here are from The Bands classic " RockinChair " written by Robbie Robertson . However . for me this is a charming mistake . I love both songs .The names . Sir George Martin . Norman Smith . Maicolm Addey and Norrie Paramour and others areresponsible for many of our most treasured memories .2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. A great book for the studio - but not for Beatles fans...By Eric M. VanWagnerI bought this book as part of academic research and found it very informative. It explains the rich history the studio has - even without the Beatles it would have been a historic gem! The Beatles are not mentioned very much - but that makes sense: what else is there to say? The "Recording the Beatles" book is a great companion work and covers everything youd want to know. Meanwhile. by limiting the Beatles in this book they made room for other wonderful information.4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. All I was hoping it would beBy Asked AnsweredA great book chronicling the history of Abbey Road. Its informative and has great photos that Ive never seen before. If you have "Recording The Beatles" by Kevin Ryan and Brian Kehew then you need to buy this as well. Its a great companion piece for "Recording The Beatles" and similar in its look and in-depth coverage. But not just fro Beatle fans. it starts at the beginning in 1933 and has a great cross section of music; jazz. classical. comedy and rock. Highly recommended!
