Because clothing; food; and shelter are basic human needs; they provide excellent entries to cultural values and individual aesthetics. Everyone gets dressed every day; but body art has not received the attention it deserves as the most common and universal of material expressions of culture. The Grace of Four Moons aims to document the clothing decisions made by ordinary people in their everyday lives. Based on fieldwork conducted primarily in the city of Banaras; India; Pravina Shukla conceptualizes and realizes a total model for the study of body artmdash;understood as all aesthetic modifications and supplementations to the body. Shukla urges the study of the entire process of body art; from the assembly of raw materials and the manufacture of objects; through their sale and the interactions between merchants and consumers; to the consumers use of objects in creating personal decoration.

The first edition (with the first author as the sole author) was already an essential reference for specialists in atmospheric acoustics. This new edition expands the range of applications and substantially updates the presentation to highlight recent advances. Everyone actively involved in trying to understand and simulate sound propagation in the atmosphere and oceans should have it on hand. It is unique in featuring recent research on sampling-based methods (aka Monte Carlo simulation) for quantifying uncertainty in computational simulations of sound propagation. The authors specialize in near-ground sound propagation. so their presentation naturally emphasizes related applications. but the many of principles and methods they describe have broader applications.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An excellent book! Starts with rigorous theory of acoustic waves ...By SergeyAn excellent book! Starts with rigorous theory of acoustic waves and ends with numerical methods for solving practical problems of sound propagation. Very accurate treatment of moving and inhomogeneous medium of propagation. Would be very helpful to scientists and engineers with specialty in acoustics and wave theory in general.
