Civil disobedience has a tattered history in the American story. Described by Martin Luther King Jr. as both moral reflection and political act; the performance of civil disobedience in the face of unjust laws is also; Patrice Rankine argues; a deeply artistic practice. Modern parallels to Kingrsquo;s civil disobedience can be found in black theater; where the black body challenges the normative assumptions of classical texts and modes of creation. This is a theater of civil disobedience. Utilizing Aristotlersquo;s Poetics; Rankine ably invokes the six aspects of Aristotelian dramamdash;character; story; thought; spectacle; song; and diction. He demonstrates the re-appropriation and rejection of these themes by black playwrights August Wilson; Adrienne Kennedy; and Eugene Orsquo;Neill. Aristotle and Black Drama frames the theater of civil disobedience to challenge the hostility that still exists between theater and black identity.

The pictures in these book are awesome. They really catch your attention. The writing in some of the books really need some improvement; from typos to advanced words and ideas that arent followed up with explanation to one fact in the whale book that is just wrong (having me question the other facts in all the books.)This particular book I like. Its short and sweet but really catches your attention with vivid pictures. You can click on "Look Inside" on the main product page and see exactly the format of this book and most of the others follow this similar format as well. There is a picture and a short paragraph and then another picture on the next page. I do wish that they would have included additional information on that next page because there really is plenty of room for it.Overall I do like these books. As a teacher of elementary students; I would love to incorporate this ebook into a small group activity where I present a main idea or topic to the whole class and then they break up in small groups and discover more material on their own. My mind was continuously racing as I read through this book thinking of different projects I could make on this topic. It is the perfect age group to let them use a kindle to explore and what a better way to do so than with this ebook! I will totally let other teachers know of this opportunity and will keep this seller in mind with other ebooks available.
