Portsmouth; Virginia (VA) (Images of America)By patsyjaneThis is a story of my hometown; and it was great to see all of the places I remember as a kid growing up in the 50s. It brought back such memories and showed the city has I remember it. Portsmouth is steeped in history and this book told of the past in great detail. Excellent info is provided which includes the Confederate ironclad; CSS Merrimac; the Portsmouth Naval Hospital; and several of the older homes with heritage in the city. Blast into the past!By Michael RyanIve been a resident of Portsmouth for years now and have walked through the streets admiring the old buildings; monuments and cemetery thriving to find a more in depth history on the subjects and this book was amazing with the details from the times everything began up till now loaded with beautiful pictures from back in the day that are very hard to find! I do recommend this book specially if you are resident. A very good read no fluff just very interesting historic facts with pictures!
