I was enthralled by Synders book. which fleshed out many details not only about the composers seminal work "Afternoon of a Faun" (as well as his many other compositions). but Debussys life itself. Highly recommended.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Fantastic and enjoyable readBy cg1-rjThe author draws on different sources. including many of Debussys letters. to paint a detailed portrait of this famous composer. I learned a great deal about Debussy and felt like a knew him as a person after reading this book. Dates. names and places are always accompanied by reflections from the composer. or his close friends. which brought this beautiful biography to life! I enjoyed listening to recordings of the pieces described in the book. particularly some of Debussys lesser known pieces. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it if you are interested in Debussy!3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A Wonderful BiographyBy Kindle CustomerThis book is beautifully written. and I was especially entranced by the descriptions of the music. I could almost hear the performances. The drama of Debussys romantic and musical life is compelling. The humor is unexpected and terrific.
