All That Glitters

[audiobook] All That Glitters by Denise L'estrange Corbet at Arts-Photography

Description

Poor Superstar. All the money and fame in the world wonrsquo;t prevent him from having a bad hair day. Or stepping in gum. Or not being able to fit into skinny jeans; or watching helplessly as a scoop of ice cream falls from its cone. Or so an unnamed Superstarrsquo;s life is ingeniously imagined in this very funny book. Inspired by but not based on Jay Zrsquo;s monster hit ldquo;99 Problems;rdquo; illustrator Ali Graham riffs on what might be the real problems afflicting a world-famous music mogul who also happens to be married to the foremost diva of our time. Begun as a Tumblr; which went viral almost instantly; 99 Problems is a highly conceptual gift book showcasing 99 full-color illustrations of a cartoon character who looks just like a certain legendary rapper; and the often ordinary and sometimes fantastical things that happen to him. And thatrsquo;s where the book finds its hilarious; compulsive hookmdash;in an age that worships celebrity and assumes; somewhat enviously; that fame and fortune can protect one from lifersquo;s travails; what if that just werenrsquo;t true? Therersquo;s a surprising; underlying warmth here. Even when the author dips into flights of pop culture fantasymdash;Superstar on the bow of the Titanic; Superstar whipping up a bad batch alongside Walter White from Breaking Badmdash;the recognition of shared kinship is strong. Itrsquo;s a cartoon version of celebrity; but like the best cartoons; itrsquo;s edgy and knowing; yet sweet; too.

SmithMuch of the book is about the authors childhood experiences before and after World War II; including her internment in a concentration camp - be warned: its not pretty. As a movie fan; I was surprised to learn just how much time an actress must spend promoting herself: being seen at industry parties; calling producers and directors about parts; looking for good scripts; and even trying to arrange financing. According to Ingrid; an actors two greatest assets are "luck and lying".Ingrid Pitt is a good writer; though it took me a while to get used to her informal; conversational style. I believe this title is out of print and has been republished as "Darkness Before Dawn". Recommended.9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Lifes A Scream!By MykolIngrid opens up the pages of her fascinating life. She reveals all from growing up in a concentration camp; her struggles to become an actress in post war Berlin; her failed marriages; her rise to fame courtesy of Hammer Films; the subsequent blacklisting from the British film industry; and her battles with cancer. A book truly worth reading as Ingrid speaks her mind and doesnt bite her tongue. Youll realize her life is one hell of a scream!
