All the Rage: A Quest

[DOC] All the Rage: A Quest by Martin Moran in Arts-Photography

Description

No area of Portland; Oregon; played a more important role in street railway history than Northwest Portland and the neighborhood known as Slabtown. In 1872; the citys first streetcars passed close to Slabtown as they headed for a terminus in the North End. Slabtown was also home to the first streetcar manufacturing factory on the West Coast. In fact; until locally built streetcars began to be replaced by trolleys from large national builders in the 1910s; more than half of all rolling stock was manufactured in shops located at opposite ends of Northwest Twenty-third Avenue. All streetcars operating on the west side of the Willamette River; including those used on the seven lines that served Northwest Portland; were stored in Slabtown. When the end finally came in 1950; Slabtown residents were riding two of the last three city lines.

An achingly honest account of the quest to deal with the fallout from a long ago teenage molestation.By Will MacadamMartins one man play based on his book THE TRICKY PART was an event from which I will never recover. The story of his being molested by a Catholic Brother at camp one summer when he was well under age. it was not only gut wrenching. but eye opening. You see Martin was a gay kid. However when he confronts his molester years later. as an adult. he finds himself strangely ambivalent. Why? He does manage to get out something like: "Yes I wanted it. but I was a kid. I was in no position to give you permission. you should have know that. it was trespass" but there is no anger. This book is about that weird ambivalence and his quest to find the rage.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Eloquent. humane and gorgeously written...By Bettyboy72Moran has crafted a wonderful follow-up to "The Tricky Part" that also is a stand alone novel. In my opinion. few write emotional landscapes as beautifully as Moran. A simple wordsmith. he imparts his tale with carefully chosen phrasing that cuts to the core of his feelings and draws the reader in. Its a beautiful and breathtaking journey he leads us on. Highly recommended.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A beautifully touching novel and I thank MrBy ptolanaA beautifully touching novel and I thank Mr. Moran for sharing his story.
