With the increasing disappearance of stained glass in medieval churches; the surviving wood carvings on church misericords and bench ends are extremely important in providing an insight into the medieval mind. The carved images were often used to convey the messages of the Christian faith in the Middle Ages but they were not just concerned with religion and religious symbols ndash; they also told stories of mythology; humour and satire; showing illustrations of everyday life and people. This book outlines the history of church seating and discusses the craftsmen and the influences behind their work. Using illustrations; the author then explains the subject matter of these wood carvings; revealing how one can discover so much about medieval life ndash; the spiritualism; moralism and the wit ndash; within the carvings still found in churches today.

Excellent BookBy Lisa AntunesExcellent book for those just beginning to Zen Doodle or those who are more advanced it gives clear ideas on how to develop your tangles as well as examples and many patterns as well as encouragement for those of us who become discouraged easily. I have bought a few books on this topic and this one by far has more practical advice on how to start; the different mediums you can use; how to go about lettering; design composition but most importantly she encourages exploration to find your own style. I am very happy with the book best one I have bought to date; she also has a YouTube Channel that show you how to draw many tangles I have been a fan of hers since the beginning.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Not only has it shown me new strokes and tangles; it has really opened up a new way to look at coloring my tangles. This book has exceeded my expectations; and I would recommend this book.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Deserves more than 5 StarsBy Jennifer SinsleyBy far the best book on Zen Doodling and Tangling that I have purchased to date. I have a few books and a couple are out on my desk all the time. This one; I bought the Kindle edition and love it. It is so easy to follow and understand. Tiffanys instructions are so clear. I never thought I could do the free-form tangles with out drawing a string...... I can now do this with confidence after readiing this book. I love the patterns she introduces. Lots of inspiration.
