American Indians of the Pikes Peak Region

[PDF] American Indians of the Pikes Peak Region by Celinda R. Kaelin at Arts-Photography

Description

Will it play in Peoria? was an old Vaudeville phrase meaning; "Will it appeal to the average person?" The Illinois city has gained fame through the years; but more often as the butt of jokes or as an example of the typical Middle American town than through any recognition of its many accomplishments. But it had greatness in its grasp; and more than once. Peoria boasts a string of close brushes with prosperity; any one of which could have made it a Chicago or a St. Louis. Charles Lindbergh; for example; first approached Peoria for backing for his historic flight; but the towns moneymen refused him and his Spirit of Peoria; perhaps losing a chance at the airline industry as well.

Great photos. amazing people and life.By OakOne of the things I most love about this book are the photographs. There are tons of them and they really bring alive the people and the stories. I was surprised at how long the Pike Peak area has been inhabited and the wide variety of nations that lived and traveled through the area. Also fascinating is the spiritual importance of the area. The author paints a vivid picture of what the area and inhabitants were like and you can almost see the trails through the mountain passes. and the herds of elk and other game. This is a part of history many of us hear little about. but it is rich and vibrant.
