For more than 40 years; Iowa has held the first-in-the-nation presidential caucuses. A vibrant political culture has emerged as a result of this role; and Iowa voters have a unique opportunity to get to know the nations presidential candidates as they travel the state; attend small-group meetings; and hone their messages. Candidates come to Iowa--where "retail politics" is the name of the game--early and often. But the campaign trail in Iowa isnt just about candidates. Its about average Americans in small-town diners; church basements; and high school gyms. In an age of public cynicism about politics; the Iowa caucuses continue to demonstrate the importance of real people talking about issues with would-be presidents.

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who lives in the area and wants to know the history and maybe do some exploring.3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Good picture book.By FirelockI was born and raised in Roswell an my family dates back to the earliest settlers of Roswell. It was very interesting reading about and seeing pictures of old Roswell. I was surprised to see that my father even contributed some pictures to the book! It provides a good background to anyone interested in early North Georgia history. Its always amazing to me the discrepancy between the Roswell elite and the working poor and how they lived. The wealthy lived in amazing homes; but you must wonder how they could stomach owning slaves and paying mill workers pennies a day.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
