Prior to 1956; the area now known as Elk Grove Village was a massive cornfield. On July 17; 1956; Elk Grove Village was incorporated as a village; with a population of 116. Since that time; the growth of the village can only be described as phenomenal. Over 50 years; the village has dramatically changed since those early days of cornfields. The name Elk Grove Village was adopted from the great number of elk that roamed through the fenced-in portion of Busse Woods; along Arlington Heights Road; south of the Northwest Tollway. American Indians called the region Wapiti; meaning "elk."

The pictures were good. but the presentation could have been better if they had told us were the buildings were more than just the town. i.e. Old Depot building Stuttgart is how the book does it if they could have add a street location it would have been better. i.e. Old Depot building Stuttgart 4th and Main. Be aware if you are from town other than Stuttgart your town may be under represented. If you are a history buff get this book it is fun to see these pictures.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It is the best Ive seen in this series. The period between 1890 to 1920 is incredible. while the period from 1930-1949 may be a bit sparse. Overall. it does a great job of capturing this county.
