Around Brockport (Images of America)

[audiobook] Around Brockport (Images of America) by William G. Andrews in Arts-Photography

Description

With a rich and varied history spanning almost three hundred years; Montgomery County suffered during the Revolutionary War; prospered with the Erie Canal and the railroad; and changed in the age of urban renewal. Located in the heart of the Mohawk Valley in upstate New York; the county experienced the arrival of Dutch and Palatine German settlers; the passage of travelers heading west through the Noses; the pre-suffragist sojourn of Susan B. Anthony; and the swift success of the carpet industry. All of this is compellingly retold in Montgomery County; a broad look at the people; industry; culture; and architecture that make up the countys history.

CorbinI purchased this book because it contains information about my great-great grandfather. George Flint Barnett. and his farm implements factory in Brockport right on the Erie Canal. In addition to learning more about my ancestor and his work. I am able to see photos of him and his business that help bring the story to life. I also learned a great deal about Brockport and Monroe County from this book. leading me to put both on my bucket list for a visit in the not too distant future.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
