Around Uniontown (Images of America)

[ebooks] Around Uniontown (Images of America) by Victoria Dutko Leonelli at Arts-Photography

Description

Stories describe Michigans first governor; Lewis Cass; signing a treaty with the Chippewa in 1819 and resting nearby with companions under a swamp oak a few miles north of Detroit. Cass told the story of Prince Charles II; who took refuge in 1651 under a mighty oak tree after the Battle of Worcester and lived to be crowned king. Cass later designated the locality; including the southernmost townships in Oakland County; as Royal Oak. This sector became a village in 1891 and a city in 1921. Strong roots have helped the "City of Trees" maintain its viability through the years. Home to William Beaumont Hospital; assorted high-tech graphic and sound studios; and a world-class zoo; today Royal Oak draws people into its pedestrian-friendly downtown for an eclectic mix of bars; sidewalk cafs; boutiques; theaters; and upscale lofts.

Beautifully WrittenBy Lynn A. JovickAs my Grandmothers and Grandfathers settled in Uniontown and the the burgs around the area in the early 1900s from Czechoslovakia. found work. raised their families. and then their families families.. This edition in the Images of America book series is beautifully written about the simple and wholesome lives of the people of Uniontown. I bought one for my Aunt. one of the last two siblings of the Brzac clan left. she is 89 now. and living here in Detroit. and she just couldnt put it down. was smiling while reading it solid for atleast 2 hours.. and pointing out things she remembered. Thank You for helping us remember the good times and relive the happy moments of our Uniontown.. This book will be enjoyed for a long time in our family..
