Conceived as a challenge to long-standing conventional wisdom; Creating the Future is a work of social history/cultural criticism that examines the premise that the progress of art in Los Angeles ceased during the 1970smdash;after the decline of the Ferus Gallery; the scattering of its stable of artists (Robert Irwin; Ed Kienholz; Ed Moses; Ed Rusha and others); and the economic struggles throughout the decademdash;and didnrsquo;t resume until sometime around 1984 when Mark Tansey; Alison Saar; Judy Fiskin; Carrie Mae Weems; David Salle; Manuel Ocampo; among others became stars in an exploding art market. However; this is far from the reality of the L.A. art scene in the 1970s.The passing of those fashionable 1960s-era icons; in fact; allowed the development of a chaotic array of outlandish and independent voices; marginalized communities; and energetic; sometimes bizarre visions that thrived during the stagnant 1970s. Fallonrsquo;s narrative describes and celebrates; through twelve thematically arranged chapters; the wide range of intriguing artists and the worldmdash;not just the objectsmdash;they created. He reveals the deeper; more culturally dynamic truth about a significant moment in American art history; presenting an alternative story of stubborn creativity in the face of widespread ignorance and misapprehension among the art cognoscenti; who dismissed the 1970s in Los Angeles as a time of dissipation and decline.Coming into being right before their eyes was an ardent local feminist art movement; which had lasting influence on the direction of art across the nation; an emerging Chicano Art movement; spreading Chicano murals across Los Angeles and to other major cities; a new and more modern vision for the role and look of public art; a slow consolidation of local street sensibilities; car fetishism; gang and punk aesthetics into the earliest version of what would later become the ldquo;Lowbrowrdquo; art movement; the subversive co-opting; in full view of Pop Art; of the values; aesthetics; and imagery of Tinseltown by a number of young and innovative local artists who would go on to greater national renown; and a number of independent voices who; lacking the support structures of an art movement or artist cohort; pursued their brilliant artistic visions in near-isolation.Despite the lack of attention; these artists would later reemerge as visionary signposts to many later trends in art. Their work would prove more interesting; more lastingly influential; and vastly more important than ever imagined or expected by those who saw it or even by those who created it in 1970rsquo;s Los Angeles. Creating the Future is a visionary work that seeks to recapture this important decade and its influence on todayrsquo;s generation of artists.

But...Unlike some other Kindle coloring books; this one has a link to download and print these on your own. I like that. I recently got into coloring. Its something my son and I can do together while we are at the cabin relaxing. My son is only 6 so he cant color these very well but its an activity he and I can do together and share our results with one another.Disclaimer - I received this ebook for free in exchange for my honest; unbiased; and fair review. In no way has this influenced my review. I rely on reviews just as much as you do and detest fake five star reviews. I very much appreciate reviewers who take the time to provide their honest and unbiased reviews and; for that; I am extremely grateful to them. When I need or would like particular products; I take the time to research those products as I do quite a lot of online shopping. I also take the time to test every product; whether received for free; at a discount; or for full sale price; to find out if the item holds true to its claim. If you found my review to be helpful in any way; then I trust that I have provided the necessary details to make your buying decision an informative and positive one.Should you have any questions; please feel free to ask away and hopefully I can provide an answer. Sample kindle book of their paper book.By ROKThese are mostly an advertisement for the full version of the Jupiter Kids hard copy coloring books.Classic Flower Ornaments (Coloring Pages) (Flower Patterns and Art Book Series) comes with several pages that describe why adult coloring books and childrens coloring books help you such as stimulate creativity; improve handwriting; relieve stress; reduce the possibility of dementia and Alzheimers (the jury is still out on this one as far as I have researched); reduce blood pressure; help focus and meditation; and reduce anxiety and then it has 14 pictures on 7 pages that you can print out and color. This Kindle book is just a sampler of what you would receive if you purchased the book. You can purchase the full book from Jupiter Kids which appears to be a division of Speedy Publishing. The pictures mostly appear to be intricate designs that include flowers that looks fun to color and would look really nice when colored. Some of these coloring pages seem to appear in other products of theirs. Please note that I received this product at a reduced price or free for my honest; unbiased and accurate review of it. Reviews are important to me when I purchase items; especially from unknown sources; so I want to do my part in keeping reviews relevant. I also have not taken into consideration the original price of this items when reviewing it since was received at a discount.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Really nice flower "inspired" designs - good for intermediate or advanced color-ersBy shopper322I think this is a good coloring book for the advanced beginner or intermediate color-ers; but it would probably be beyond the skill of a newbie color-er and too easy for someone looking for ldquo;hardrdquo; designs. While there are a number of narrow lines or small areas to color; the designs are pretty straightforward and not too complex. The book has 14 different designs that are interesting and pretty. I really like how there is a lot of movement to the designs ndash; they donrsquo;t just sit flat on the page. I am not sure what is ldquo;classicrdquo; about the designs; though; and they seem more flower ldquo;inspiredrdquo; and stylized than realistic. I do think this book would be enjoyable to color. It should go without saying; but this is my fair; honest; and unbiased review of this product; and I only buy products that my family and I will actually use. I have received this item from the vendor at a discounted rate in exchange for my testing and reviewing the product; but this does not influence my review. If my review was helpful for you in any way; please click the [YES] bottom below; which enables me to continue writing helpful reviews.
