William James Glackens (1870 ndash; 1938) was an American realist painter and one of the founders of the Ashcan School of American art. He is also known for his work in helping Albert C. Barnes to acquire the European paintings that form the nucleus of the famed Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia. His dark-hued; vibrantly painted street scenes and depictions of daily life in pre-World War I New York and Paris first established his reputation as a major artist. His later work was brighter in tone and showed the strong influence of Renoir. During much of his career as a painter; Glackens also worked as an illustrator for newspapers and magazines in Philadelphia and New York City. His legacy is linked to that of the Ashcan school and The Eight. Although he distanced himself from some of their ideals; William Glackens continued to be considered an integral part of the realist movement in American art.

MaurerWatercolor Simplified by Pat Weaver offers an easy approach to watercolor painting. Pats style is refreshingly simple requiring a minimum of tools to create a maximum effect. If you are on a slim budget and want to get started at watercolor painting; Pat will show you how to do it with three tubes of artists grade paint; a few brushes and some good quality watercolor paper. Thats all you need along with some patience and practice. Im game. Are you?2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Just an absolute favorite of mineBy P. RameyI borrowed this book - Watercolor Simplified - by Pat Weaver. I borrowed it from a friend who has had it for years. I have so many watercolor books as I teach a beginning class to older adults - I didnt want to go out and buy another.I was due to give a talk to a local art group and needed help. So I borrowed my friends book since the words Watercolor and Simplified described my state of mind. I started taking notes. Then more notes. Then even more notes. Finally; I said to myself - If Im taking these many notes - hell I may as well just buy the doggone book. And I did - off as a used book. Now students in my class are borrowing my book. I suspect they will want to buy their own as well. This book is a keeper and the video of the same name is fantastic. This woman has no time for foolishness when teaching - she simplifies the entire process. Youll love Pat Weaver in her video and Pat Weaver in her book. Watercolor Simplified is a keeper of a book which is why you can barely find it anymore.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
