[ebooks] Art Journal Kickstarter: Pages and Prompts to Energize Your Art Journals by From North Light Books in Arts-Photography

Description

The Sandham Memorial Chapel is Stanley Spencers monument to the forgotten dead of the First World War. Drawing on his experiences as a medical orderly in a Bristol hospital and in Macedonia; he commemorates the everyday routine of the soldiers life with an intensely personal religious faith that reaches its triumphant climax in the huge Resurrection of the Soldiers above the altar. Spencers touching murals are widely considered to be his masterpiece. In this new guidebook Amanda Bradley discusses the genesis of the commission and the role of its patrons. For the first time; all 19 panels are reproduced in colour; together with revealing details of key elements in the scheme.

Although the book hosts awesome artwork. it doesnt really push or inspire me as much as I hoped. More of a QA from an artist on their journal entry.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. This is a real Kickstarter for sure!By S. WarfieldI absolutely love art journals. I must have just about every art journaling book that is in print. But I havent yet started my own out of pure fear. That white paper page grows legs and a voice that dances around and says. "Nah. nah. you cant do this and do it perfectly." Then I got this book and on page 27. down in the right corner there is a quote that says. "The illusion of perfection is the enemy of happiness and creativity." That is the truest thing Ive heard all day. I even dog-eared the page and I never dog-ear lovely books such as this one. What astounded me was a photo of a two-page example from artist Belinda Spiwak. It is done on a lined paper notebook and is titled "Evidence/Gecko." On the right page several pages are torn off at differing lengths and what look like stamps or stencils of three geckos are placed on that page. On the left page different light colors swirl and at the outer edge is either stamped or stenciled. "Evidence." with deep red and orange and green colors used. I read about it and the artist made and used it as inspiration for her fifth graders own journals. The book is full of examples and prompts.I think this book has inspired me to just start and not worry so much about the outcome.16 of 17 people found the following review helpful. Title is misleadingBy Jennifer GeldardBeautiful book. but the title is a misleading. Giving it only three stars. for that reason. It is simply pages from other artists journals with short interview questions. Inspirational. for sure. but not classic prompts in the sense that there are ideas to "kickstart" your own work. Not a good title for this book. as I was hoping for more of an interactive or instructional book. If youre looking for a collection of beautiful works. then yes. its lovely.
