I was very interested in understanding what goes on during the education process of todays art student. My daughter is attending MICA and I am struggling to understand what she is learning and how. My background has been entirely analytical as a science and math major then a computer scientist. What is this crazy art world. and where does my daughter fit in it? I kept an open mind and did not attempt to force her to study a topic well known for it return on investment at a typical college. or tell her to be an art major at a traditional school. but allow her to choose what she wanted where she wanted to go. With a lot of help from the artists amongst my fellow classmates. I have begun to understand why art is important and why someone might pay $12 million for a stuffed shark.From the parts of the process Witham describes to which I can relate. like portfolio day and Foundation. which he gets oh so right. I have confidence the rest of the experience he covers is correct as well. Hes a good writer and the topic is something of interest to everyone today. as our world attempts to move beyond simple careers of making widgets and starting to value creative talent more deeply.I flew through the pages of this book and recommend it to anyone. The book is mostly narrative. but its from the point of view of someone deeply engaged in each activity. Not only is his facts wrong but the book in poorly written as well. Do not buy this book!
