Perfect!!!By dci1712Ive been a Cavie fan since childhood and bought this in hopes of finding out a little more about the corps that I auditioned for; but never marched with. Little did I know I would not only be learning about the beginnings of he Cavaliers; but also about the Legion/VFW circuit "back in the day"; as well as the beginnings of DCI itself! After reading this; I have come to realize just how important to the DCI world Don Warren is. No matter which corps is your favorite or which corps you marched with; you will enjoy reading about the "golden" days of drum corps and how they directly led to the drum corps world we live in today! Go Green Machine!!!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Review - Building the Green MachineBy rhamadorInteresting to hear the background on the building of the Cavaliers. Having seen the corps in the late 60s they were truly a powerhouse that many drum corps modeled after. The only area I wondered about in the book was in the early 70s (the dark years) why Don Warren took the corps back to VFW/AL Championship shows when DCI was now the new menu for drum corps? Gail Royer (Santa Clara) and Jim Jones (Troopers) were both committed to DCI and was surprised that the Cavaliers migrated back to VFW/AL Championships - this part was not explained in the book. On one hand the book addresses how Don Warren helped build DCI but on the other hand hes taking his corps to the VFW/AL Championship shows - doesnt equate. An excellent book for the drum corps nut out there!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
