Art of Everyday Photography: Move Toward Manual and Make Creative Photos

[audiobook] Art of Everyday Photography: Move Toward Manual and Make Creative Photos by Susan Tuttle at Arts-Photography

Description

How do we appreciate a work of art? Why do we like some artworks but not others? Is there no accounting for taste? Awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship to explore connections between art; mind; and brain; Shimamura considers how we experience art. In a thoughtful and entertaining manner; the book explores how the brain interprets art by engaging our sensations; thoughts; and emotions. It describes interesting findings from psychological and brain sciences as a way to understand our aesthetic response to art.Beauty; disgust; surprise; anger; sadness; horror; and a myriad of other emotions can occur as we experience art. Some artworks may generate such feelings rather quickly; while others depend on thought and knowledge. Our response to art depends largely on what we know--from everyday knowledge about the world; from our cultural backgrounds; and from personal experience. Filled with artworks from many traditions and time points; "Experiencing Art" offers insightful ways of broadening ones approach and appreciation of art.

His writing style is very accessible and his explanations are clear (hooray for metaphors!). Most important; his exercises and tips really work -- theyre great. Several pianists - including my private teacher - have recommended "Metaphors for the Musician" and I am grateful for the advice. Thank you to them and a very special "thank you" to Randy!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Great Exercises and Insights for the Aspiring Pianist/ImproviserBy AlexExcellent stuff. Ive bought many books to help me on the road to improvisational proficiency but this one along with Jazz Improv by Jimmy Amadie have stood out to me because: they are organized and because the exercises are structured in an effective manner to keep you sharp mentally and to drill you on your knowledge of key/harmony.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Useful For Musicians Who Are Willing To Put In The TimeBy Michael GlavianoThis book is meant to be studied. And practiced. Its not intended to be read and put on the shelf. Youre supposed to read parts; practice what youve read; etc. Its focused on keyboard players; but other instrumentalists can also benefit from it. I play guitar but discuss parts of the book w/ a keyboard player. Worthwhile.
