Art of Usagi Yojimbo

[ebooks] Art of Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai in Arts-Photography

Description

William Blake was English artist; draughtsman; engraver; philosopher; and poet; one of the most remarkable figures of the Romantic period. In art as in life Blake was an individualist who made a principle of nonconformity. He had a prejudice against painting in oils on canvas and experimented with a variety of techniques in colour printing; illustration; and tempera. His work as an artist is almost impossible to divorce from the complex philosophy expressed also through his poetry. He believed that the visible world of the senses is an unreal envelope behind which the spiritual reality is concealed and set himself the impossible task of creating a visual symbolism for the expression of his spiritual visions. He refused the easy path of vagueness and misty suggestion; remaining content with nothing less than the maximum of clarity and precision. To most of his contemporaries Blake seemed merely an eccentric; and his genius was not generally recognized until the second half of the 19th century.

Something for everybodyBy Christine CadoretteFrom a small; adorable ring to a cover for an IKEA ottoman; theres something for all levels of ambition here. I really like the modern style of the designs. Some of the projects start of with something youve knit yourself while others have you start with a recycled wool sweater. I have to admit I like the looks of some of these recycled projects so much that Im considering knitting my own sweaters just to recycle them into laptop sleeves or chair cushions. I really love the use of both color and texture in these projects. Theres a nice span of techniques to get you there as well... texture is accomplished through shibori or cabling; color is added through knitting; needle felting; or surface embroidery to name a few options. The felted objects are either shaped through knitting or the felted fabric is cut into the desired shape. I really like the tone of the book too. I think this book and I are going to spend a lovely winter together.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great felting resourceBy JLFThis book contains the best advice about felting Ive found. Such clever patterns included. Really love the circular zippered coin purse pattern. Ive made several for gifts and everyone has loved them. Fun to make and such fun to see the change in shape after felting. I think of them as jewelry pouches; but it has been interesting to hear everyones different ideas fore uses of them. This is a great book!0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
