Artist Management for the Music Business

[ePub] Artist Management for the Music Business by Paul Allen at Arts-Photography

Description

In the absence of love; there is loneliness; sorrow and desperation. And thats where I come in. --Greg Dulli; introducing "When We Two Parted" onstage in San FranciscoLike no record before or since; Gentlemen is fraught with the psychological warfare; bedroom drama; Catholic guilt; reprehensible deception and uncleansable shame that coincide with relationships gone seriously wrong. This story explores what happens when intellectual sophistication is star-crossed with outspoken braggadocio; a charismatic mixture that managed to alienate the mainstream horde and arms-folded indie scenesters while; for good measure; incited outsider jealousy and condescending rumors advanced by the Fat Greg Dulli zine. In addition to dissecting the records organization; arrangements and lyrics; as well as examining old articles; reviews and interviews; this book delves into the memories; experiences and influences of the Afghan Whigs; most notably those that drive Dulli; a polarizing frontman whose fierce pretentiousness; GQ appearance and gloves-off boisterousness concealed deep-rooted mental depression and chemical dependency.

You can learn guitar from the ground up with this book.By ScottSgrNo one does a better job of starting at the beginning and working you towards some down right advanced concepts faster than Fred Sokolow. In fact; I was surprised at how far back he starts you. He starts at the very beginning; with how to read chord diagrams; then on to the notes on the neck; then to the blues. He covers chords; including major and 6th chords; which I never thought of as blues chords. He covers chord riffs for various blues styles. Then scales. Finger picking. "Blues Boxes". Soloing with single notes and double stops. Texas fingerstyle; which to my ear sounds like Travis Picking. So if you want to start learning guitar with the intent to play blues; this has to be the best product out there; period. And if you can already play but want to learn the blues genre; it is perfect for that as well. Ive been playing guitar for thirty years; I majored in guitar performance in college twenty years ago(dropped out after two years); I dont suck; and I doubled my blues chops in one afternoon with this short book.I think it is safe to say that I will eventually own all of the Fretboard Roadmaps books; even the ones devoted to genres I dont care about; like bluegrass; just to round out I playing. You can probably tell that I am blown away.7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. pretty goodBy karateguitarWhen I started "teaching" myself guitar; I bought "Fretboard Roadmaps"; and used it for some worthwhile learning of MY fretboard! Now I buy F.M. Blues; and was a little surprised and yeah; a little frustrated because it almost is the exact same book! Although it does have a CD; which IS needed in every book on guitar! It does make sense to those who havent read the F.R. series. Its definately not a bad book; but I thought he could have veered a little away from the original F.R. book to actually show how different the blues are to rock and whatnot. This is not a cut-down of the book by any means and unlike others; I believe this IS a book for beginners. Do what I did when I was a beginner; skip chapters you dont get; and come back to them later.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not one of Sokolows better tomes.By John ChavezNot nearly as good as some of the EXCELLENT Fretboard Roadmaps by Sokolow. For me it was so basic and sparse that it barely qualifies as an intro to playing blues guitar - which I have been doing for decades. That said; I do recommend some of the other guitar instructional books by Sokolow - easy to understand and a good way to understand and launch into the basics of playing stringed instruments.
