Description

Cowards forgotten play; published to tie in with its world premiere. In his wickedly funny final play; Nouml;eI Coward takes us behind the scenes of a new West End production. Conjuring up an authentic backstage world of talent and treachery; Coward creates a gallery of unforgettable characters; temperamental leading lady; ruthless director; jaded old troupers and; caught somewhere between them all; innocent young playwright. From tentative first rehearsal to triumphant opening night; the clash of egos becomes increasingly and hilariously bloody. But what emerges from the mayhem is a startling evocation of that most elusive gift of all - star quality. This edition; adapted by Chris Luscombe and introduced by Sheridan Morley; is published to coincide with the plays West End premiere in October 2001.

It offered great insight to the ups and downs of Johns career and I recommend it to people.I would have loved a bit more personal information such as what his wife was life; given her signficance; his siblings and maybe some of his flaws - John seems a bit picture perfect in this book and hes human. There was a bit too much listing of names of every individual that was maybe in his band each time - probably important to them but not so much to the reader - it felt like a list. It also a digressed from John Farnham onto other people in the industry quite often - can give you good insight into the world especially as I wasnt around when his career started but sometimes just lost me.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. One VoiceBy The MaestroIt must be difficult to write a book on someone who does not actively contribute to the story. Sometimes there are people around the person who provide detail that makes up for what the subject does not give. We get that in this book but for me there was something not quite hitting the mark. Not all meat and potatoes. Some of the early material is taken from an earlier bio.Farnham is one of the greats of Australian popular music and it is disappointing that he; like other great Australian musicians; have not made their name to any great significance overseas. I enjoyed the book but felt it was a bit light on in places. I learned about problems he faced during a lull in his career; his loyalty to others and his strong work ethic. Overall I came away knowing a bit more about John Farnham but not much more. It would have been a benefit to Jane Gazzo and her readers had John Farnham had some input.
