Fashion Design for Living explores the positive contribution that the contemporary fashion designer can make within society. The book seeks to reveal new ways of designing and making fashion garments and products that not only enhance and enrich our lives; but also are mindful of social and sustainable issues. This book sets out to question and challenge the dominant; conventional process of fashion design that as a practice has been under-researched. While the fashion designer in industry is primarily concerned with the creation of the new seasonal collection; designed; produced and measured by economically driven factors; society increasingly expects the designer to make a positive contribution to our social; environmental and cultural life. Consequently an emergent set of designers and research-based practitioners are beginning to explore new ways to think about fashion designing. The contributors within this book argue that fashion designing should move beyond developing garments that are just aesthetically pleasing or inexpensive; but also begin to consider and respond to the wearers experiences; wellbeing; problems; desires and situations; and their engagement with and use of a garment. Fashion Design for Living champions new approaches to fashion practice by uncovering a rich and diverse set of views and reflective experiences which explore the changing role of the fashion designer and inspire fresh; innovative and creative responses to fashion and the world we live in.

I have another book by Claudia Nice; and it was more for beginners with details onmany watercolor and ink techniques. This book is for the more advanced artist; I think. So I do like it. But if you are abeginner; Id suggest you check out her earlier books on ink and drawing in general. I am very impressed with heroutput and the many examples that she includes in her books. She is definitely someone who is highly dedicated andwilling to share her knowledge with other artists. No regrets at all buying this book3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Great introductory bookBy Barbara H.This is a fabulous book for beginners to follow along; learn and practice new techniques. All elements of beginning drawing are explained. Many books leave out important details that newbies like me need to know. My introductory drawing teacher thinks its wonderful and recommends it to her students. Its a great book and value.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Excellent reference bookBy Ana HI am a professional artist; living and working out of Oklahoma. I bought this book as a reference book to help my technique improve. I usually work with oil and acrylic; but lately have been experimenting with ink wash and watercolor. This book had everything I needed. It does *NOT* teach you how to use watercolor. This book is for people who already have some experience with painting and using the medium. Some of the techniques are hard to master; but worth trying.I strongly recommend this book to anyone who is working with ink and watercolor as a professional or a hobbyist. Well worth the money spent.
