Description

I found this book clear; with a lot of amazing photos; and nice "case studies" on the behind the scenes of making some of these.I gave it only four stars; since I think that given the amount of underwater photography guides out there; a new book should decide whether it is aimed at novices; or at advanced shooters looking to hone their techniques. I felt that this book was undecisive on some. I felt it glossed on some points that are not obvious to novices; and as an advanced photographer; I learned from the book; but not as much as I expected.I usually recommend The Underwater Photographer as the goto book for learning underwater photography. As an advanced book; I felt that Winning Images with Any Underwater Camera: The essential guide to creating engaging photos taught me more.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great combination of beautiful photos and technical tips.By Jim RobbinsI am a recreational diver and an amateur photographer; I learned of this book on a dive trip and picked it up upon returning. The books main audience is those with better equipment and/or greater aspirations than I however I have still enjoyed and gotten a lot from it.The chapters start with choosing photography equipment and preparing for a dive trip; then cover topics all the way through editing and archiving. Each page has a photo or graphic illustrating the matter at hand and all photos have descriptive captions with info on the camera model; lens; and settings used. The text is easy to read while conveying a lot of information and tips. In the middle of the book is a Guest Photographers Gallery for five other professionals; and these too have detailed captions.Between each chapter is a case study with a gorgeous photograph and in-depth study covering the backstory; settings considerations; a diagram of positioning; and more. All in all a great book with beautiful photos coupled with many details and tips on how to achieve them yourself. This has improved my abilities with mid-grade land cameras and even my basic underwater point-and-shoots; while tempting me to upgrade gear to advance my hobby.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Top 5 Underwater BooksBy MacroMaloI brought this book on my flight to Spain from NY and I can honestly say that this was worth every cent. One of the many reasons why I love this book is the way the author communicates with you and explains his process. This is not just a gallery book; it is very informative giving the reader every detail of his shooting process. After reading this it completely changed the way I viewed under water photography. It is not easy or cheap to do but if you are patient youre able to capture a fascinating world. I also like the fact that the author included his photo along with an example of where he was positioned as well and the settings he used for each shot. He also includes a summery at the end of each chapter if you wanted to quickly understand the main details. This is a great book a lot of important information for people who are looking to get better knowledge about shooting subjects underwater.
