I enjoyed learning more about the home town of my motherBy James HalifkoI enjoyed learning more about the home town of my mother; one where I lived and when my parents moved us to Carteret where I spend most of my summers. The Sayre and Fischer clay pit fill my childhood imagination wonderfully: In winter I was in the Arctic in summer the desert. There was enough diversity in nature to imagine almost anywhere even on Mars. Fossils were common; interesting stones; streams; ponds and the woods. A variety of wildlife was observed. "Sayreville (NJ) (Images of America) filled in blanks but could have had more images of the milieu. My grandfather worked for Sayre and Fischer and my five uncles all worked at "Pigment" (what we called the National Lead Plant). My Mom and my three aunts worked in nearby sewing factories. My friend Tony and I enjoyed crabbing and fishing in Morgan and called Cheesequake Creek Morgan Creek. There was still the remnants of the after affects of the munition plant explosion in 1918 (T. A. Gillespie Company Shell Loading Plant explosion). I recall a childhood enriched by all the interesting aspects of Sayreville;NJ and this book helped me to wax nostalgic; again I only wish there were more photographs to view. Bottom line: I am grateful for this book because it is an important link to my past and my familyrsquo;s past.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Lots of great pictures and I remember some of these placesBy Robert C. CushmanI was raised in Parlin 1938-1947; now part of Sayreville. A childs world is very small. This gave me a much bigger picture of my early environs. It also has lots of history. Lots of great pictures and I remember some of these places. It brought back memories. Well written; lots of excellent photos but probably only of interest to someone with ties to that area0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
