Those new to J.W. are directed to the Frank Book; and the intrepid may proceed from there. A compilation of sketchbook drawings; Problematic is at turns dark and disturbing; hilarious and delightful; enigmatic and ineffable....just like life itself. This high quality hardback book will fascinate and frighten for hours; and should be kept in the same place as the volatile solvents; kitchen knives; and prescription medications. In other words; out of the reach of small children and household pets.We should all give thanks that Jim lives in his head; such that we dont have to. His is a necessary endeavor; not unlike a shaman who ingests sacred plants in order to bring us visions from co-existent universes. Then again; maybe that is exactly who he is.Thank you; Mr. Woodring.I will be careful not to look between these covers when it is too close to bedtime when I am home alone. On the other hand.......2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Reveals the processBy J. PoinskiJim Woodringrsquo;s offerings are usually in lsquo;comic bookrsquo; format; this book brings you a different aspect of the creative nature of the man. Each drawing is a portrait that is produced in a short timeframe. The materials needed are portable; making it possible for the work to be more impulsive and spontaneous. It was well reproduced and the drawings reveal every pencil line and lsquo;first draft ghost imagersquo; that went into the process.I am a fan of his work; and comic art in general; so this was a lsquo;must haversquo; purchase.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. A behind-the-scenes type of experienceBy PatrickIf youre a fan of Jim Woodring; this is a must-have. You can get this product on his website for $100.00 with a hand-drawn sketch by Mr.Woodring on the last page; totally worth it to support such an amazing artist. If youre not already a fan; then Id recommend The Frank Book as your introduction...youll be shelling out your hard earned money to support this artist in no time; haha.Problematic: Sketchbook Drawings 2004-2012 is like owning one of Jims own sketchbooks; a rare glimpse into an unfiltered collection of random ideas of his.The only thing I had an issue with is that the entire marketing of this product reads like an advertisement for Moleskine sketchbooks.
