It really covers a lot of ground and gives you a solid understanding of the basics of jazz. The six major scales 6/1. 5/1. 6/2. 5/2. 6/4. and 5/4 are very helpful in learning the fretboard. Some of the chords have ridiculous stretches. but overall the majority of chords given are useful and easy to master. The book focuses equally on both chords and single-note playing. There is a lot of theory that is easy to understand and very helpful in learning the jazz music style. I can hardly wait to master the basics and move on to Book Two. but that is going to take at least a year. maybe two.I highly recommend this extremely useful and practical book. Its the best jazz guitar book I have ever seen. Jody Fisher is an accomplished teacher. The Mickey Baker jazz guitar book is also useful. but Jody Fishers book is much better overall. I am currently working out of both books. I am a very experienced rock guitarist and that really helps. I wouldnt want to be just starting out on guitar and trying to use either of these books.Buy this book and be prepared to work hard and have a ball doing it.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. VERY INFORMATIVEBy rachel youngI have the whole jazz study series of Jody Fisher. I started with his chord/ melody method but decided buy this beginner series as well. I learned that even though you might already know the basics or even the full mechanics of your instrument. you will always have an approach that you might not have been familiar with in your history of study; There is always room to learn other approaches to guitar in your music career whether your teaching or performing . I highly recommend this book for students who wish to study the jazz genre for the first time!1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Great book for the burgeoning guitar playerBy ZobianIf youre looking to begin playing Jazz guitar. and are already familiar pentatonic scales. open chords and barre chords. this a great book! NOT for the absolute beginner (but then again. neither is playing Jazz).
