Roads are rarely given a second thought yet are indispensable to life. Admittedly; a book dedicated to roadways sounds a bit dry. But behind every double-diamond interchange; every pork chop island; and every type of asphalt is a fascinating history of the traveling public. This book reveals the hidden history of building the Silver States highways since 1917. The next time you take a road trip across Nevada on the Lincoln Highway (US 50) or the Victory Highway (US 40) or follow a rutted road to a once-booming ghost town think of the ingenious and industrious men and women; surveyors; engineers; chemists; and yes; even the teams of mules that built the roads we still travel today.

Very interesting to read that their conservation work started so early. Many people think aquariums conservation work only started recently.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Fascinating Historical Review!By Frederick A. BramanCheryl and her co-writer Terran McGinnis capture an interesting place with a fascinating history. They tell the diverse story of Marineland; as most of us know it; with words and countless historical photos. They describe the changing character of a venue that continues to serve an important role in the study of marine life and fill a prominent role in todays coastal community.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great book for a wonderful little Florida treasure!By Lauren FThis book was wonderful if you grew up going to Marineland like I did. It has evolved so much over the years! It was a short; quick history of the worlds first oceanarium. I wouldve LOVED to know more about the 80s and 90s; but that part was pretty much left out.
