I just finished my film Pay Attention; success leaves clues. Kinda like the secret without the million dollar budget. The grants and connections in the back of the book are worth their weight in gold. The book is a must read for any film maker that is creating the budget for their film. Theres some things to help you; but its just not geared toward you; and its kind of lame of them not to make that clear to someone looking for the right book. Also; I had a professor in college; really esteemed; Oscar winner; but instead of teaching us; he only ever just read from his memoirs. Theres a little bit of that in here - digressions that feel more about like "heres who Ive worked with" instead of sticking to the main point. For example; in one chapter where the author says she will talk about alternative funding channels; she ends up talking about what makes a good documentary interview with a filmmaker she gave a grant to. Useful for documentary filmmakers but...By fly girlI bought this book eager to learn some of the "alternative" financing concepts based on the glowing reviews. Im about to mount a low budget feature; and I thought the book might provide good info on investment schemes and methods of raising money and other non-monetary support for a fictional project. However; this book is aimed at the non-profit and/or documentary filmmaker with only cursory references to fictional feature (or short) projects. I really learned nothing new from this title and I feel the description here is misleading. I suggest those of you looking for insight on funding for-profit films look elsewhere. If you are wanting to shoot a documentary then this book could be very helpful. My two cents worth.
