Overall I liked this bookBy AmandaI received the 2nd grade History: The Mayan Civilization: Second Grade Books (Childrenrsquo;s Ancient History Books) here is my review on it. Overall I liked this book. I am not sure that this is a perfect book for second graders as some of the vocabulary is a little to advance; but if it is read by an adult and either the word are explained or changed then I think the book is a good interdiction into the Mayan culture. The book starts out with a short introduction of the Mayan culture and then alternating pages of short bits of information and full page pictures. The page offers some information are on various topics such as Mayan writings; architecture; appearance; culture; and stone work. This information was fine when I read the book to my kids; but I did not think that writing would have been good for a second grader let alone a third grader. The vocabulary would have been too much for a second grader. I will say I really do love the illustrations in the book. The pictures are really great! I like how the pictures match with the information that they are presenting. The pictures definitely grabbed my kidrsquo;s attention and helped to bring up some great discussion. I liked the fact that the pictures stirred up my kidrsquo;s interest they even went to their laptops to find out more. They wanted to continue researching the Mayan Culture. I personally think that this is a great introduction book; and we used this book as such. We enjoyed reading the book; and moving onto the computer to continue learning all about the Mayan Culture. I am very pleased that this book sparked my kidrsquo;s interest and that they wanted to continue to research and learn more. I would highly recommend this book as an interdiction book. The one downfall I see is that the books vocabulary is a little much for the attended audience. As long as the book is read by an adult and some of the vocabulary used change around for little ones to better understand I highly recommend the book. I received this e-book for free or at a discounted rate; in exchange for my honest review.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Great Overview of the Mayan CivilizationBy Elizabeth HeathGreat Overview of the Mayan Civilization! My husband; son and myself all went to the Yucatan for the holidays last year and I wanted my son to have some background on the culture of the Mayans before we went. He is in 6th grade; but this was still a nice simple overview of the Mayan culture that I was able to convince him to read on the airplane heading to Mexico! I even enjoyed reading it with him. I would recommend if you are looking for a simple overview of the Mayan Civilization. Certainly does not give a lot of details or background; but enough to get a good overview.I received this item at a discounted rate or free in exchange for my unbiased opinion. Whether I received the product discounted; free; or purchased it at full has no bearing on my personal experience of the product. They really catch your attentionBy ElizabethThere are about 200 of these ebook from Baby Professor. They are either free or .99cent; right now. The pictures in these book are awesome. They really catch your attention. The writing in some of the books really need some improvement; from typos to advanced words and ideas that arent followed up with explanation to one fact in the whale book that is just wrong (having me question the other facts in all the books.)This particular book I like. Its short and sweet but really catches your attention with vivid pictures. You can click on "Look Inside" on the main product page and see exactly the format of this book and most of the others follow this similar format as well. There is a picture and a short paragraph and then another picture on the next page. I do wish that they would have included additional information on that next page because there really is plenty of room for it.Overall I do like these books. I plan on keeping them on my iPad for my kids when we have "waiting" time (when one is waiting for the others sports practice to end or maybe in the doctors office.)
