Blow by Blow: The Story of Isabella Blow

[DOC] Blow by Blow: The Story of Isabella Blow by Detmar Blow; Tom Sykes in Arts-Photography

Description

Anyone can make art. Finding ones spiritual center can come of making art. Making art can come of finding ones spiritual center. Nancy Azara has been teaching the making of art; art-making as a spiritual practice; and other spiritual practices for thirty-five years. She has developed a system that combines her lifelong spiritual practice with techniques designed to help anyone get and stay in touch with their own inner artistic souls. Spirit Taking Form is a practical book. It offers lists of materials to work with and exercises and meditation techniques to help everyone bring out their inner voice. It includes specific meditations for healing the inner critic; cultivating imagination; and finding ones artistic heart. Its meditations and exercises can be done many times; and each time they can bring the reader new and richer experiences and deeper insights. Throughout the book Azara shares her own story and the inspirations that have made her a successful artist. Using an old Sicilian folk tale taught to her by her grandfather; she has always sought to look at life with one eye open out to the world and the other closed; or turned inward. It is this skill more than any other that she seeks to engender in the reader through exercises such as "The Visual Diary." Learning and teaching about art from a place of spirit calls us to a challenge; a challenge to look at something very familiar; yet distant and remote. Spirit Taking Form offers insight into artistic expression and how it can be applied to life as a catalyst for growth; change; and expression.

WatsonThis certainly is a Blow by Blow description of Isabellas life told to the treader by her now widowed husband Detmar Blow.Isabella was a colorful character throughout her years of desparate achievments in the social and fashion world in London and of course New York.Detmar takes us into the life style of the rich and famous in their social and castle whirl of England. mentioning many high profile names along his way. Some parts of Detmars recording of his life with Isabella were interesting and some wre tiresome. We all knew that Isabella commited suicide. and knew that Detmar was leading up to this sad ending of his wifes life. I began to feel rather depressed at the whole situation. and kept wondering why Detmar continued following Isabellas wild and frustrating journey.. Having said this. it is an interesting read for anyone who follows the happenings of high profile Fashion and Entertainment Industry. I myself just had to finish Detmars story.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Insightful but a bit biased.By Jamie RiversAn informative read about Isabellas personal life from the perspective of her husband Detmar. If you can pull yourself away from Detmars pretentious story-telling portrayal of his life with Isabella. there are gems of insight into her fabulous and sad life. I recommend it but would probably pick up another book from a different perspective.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Revealing and insightfulBy EvanThis book. admittedly. opened some old wounds from watching my mother lose her battle to breast cancer and her own attempted suicide. I believe this story needed to be told. I always admired Mrs. Blows tenacity and impeccable eye for talent. Thank you. Mr. Blow. for inviting us into your unique journey.
