Blueprint Reading: Construction Drawings for the Building Trade

[ePub] Blueprint Reading: Construction Drawings for the Building Trade by Sam Kubba in Arts-Photography

Description

In this 2003 study; Edson Armi offers a fresh interpretation of Romanesque architecture. Armi focuses on buildings in northern Italy; Switzerland; southern France and Catalonia; the regions where Romanesque architecture first appeared around 1000 AD. He integrates the study of medieval structure with an understanding of construction; decoration and articulation in an effort to determine the origins and originality of medieval architecture and the formation of the High Romanesque style; especially in Burgundy; at sites such as Cluny III. Relying on a close analysis of the fabric of key buildings; Armis in-depth study reveals a lot about design decisions in the early Middle Ages. It also demonstrates that the mature Romanesque of the twelfth century continues many of the applications created and perfected over the previous one hundred years.

A much needed workBy GoldengateSFThere is a lot of San Francisco history that is easily neglected and almost forgotten amidst the hustle and bustle of the ever progressive and changing city by the bay.The Images of America has helped correct this neglect with a series of excellent little picture books about some of the aspects of history that are fun and fascinating. This book on the brave men and women firefighters starts out with the colorful private fire companies of the 19th century. Indeed; San Francisco being a wild and crazy placeit burned down a few times; a companies of fire fighters were essential. Later; when the 1906 earthquake and fire hit; they were mostly a city run organization; that did their heroic best to respond to the disaster.Other famous fires are covered as well; such famous hotel fires; Sutros Cliff House in 1907; Sutro baths and St. Marys cathedral. Also covered are changes in equipment ;uniform and personel. And all of the pictures are excellent and some very rare.A great addition to any library of San Francisco books.
