Bob Dylan In America

[ebooks] Bob Dylan In America by Sean Wilentz at Arts-Photography

Description

Sounding New Media examines the long-neglected role of sound and audio in the development of new media theory and practice; including new technologies and performance art events; with particular emphasis on sound; embodiment; art; and technological interactions. Frances Dyson takes an historical approach; focusing on technologies that became available in the mid-twentieth century-electronics; imaging; and digital and computer processing-and analyzing the work of such artists as John Cage; Edgard Varegrave;se; Antonin Artaud; and Char Davies. She utilizes sounds intangibility to study ideas about embodiment (or its lack) in art and technology as well as fears about technology and the so-called "post-human." Dyson argues that the concept of "immersion" has become a path leading away from aesthetic questions about meaning and toward questions about embodiment and the physical. The result is an insightful journey through the new technologies derived from electronics; imaging; and digital and computer processing; toward the creation of an aesthetic and philosophical framework for considering the least material element of an artwork; sound.

Positively 4th Dimensional Portrait of Life and Times of Bob Dylan!By Robert JassoThe author inserts himself in the story where its appropriate simply because he is part of the story. As the author states early on. he had the good fortune of living in the NY neighborhood when Dylan showed up. I absolutely recommend the tale this author meticulously unfolds about the life and times of this incredible talent. I dont think Ill ever listen to Dylan"s music with the same ears again... I have been influenced by Bob Dylan since 1963. so its saying a lot for me to make these comments.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This is an EXCELLENT book! Analysis is given from mainly historical. cultural. and political perspectives; and I feel like I get so much more Dylans music after reading it. An added bonus is that the author analyzes and references many obscure Dylan songs and influences which has broadened my listening and knowledge options.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. ...
