The book covers the various phases of Teds life and art starting with watercolors and woodblocks; moving on to Teds mature oil style; then to a style in which Teds main approach was a relatively thinly painted approach; then to an "assemblage" style in which found pieces of wood were assembled into a shape and painted; then to a "graffiti" style which preceded the emergence of Jean Michael Basquiat on the art scene in New York; and finally to an abstract style pursued fervently for the last five years of Teds life. The mature style of Teds art (1970s) was introduced to the public in the post-mortem "Virginia Vistas" exhibition; sponsored by the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts; which toured various museums during the 2007 through 2012 time period. Ted and his wife Sally Turner (also a fine artist) come alive in this book; as do the paintings of both of these artists.
