Building Communities (Routledge Revivals): The Co-operative Way

[ePub] Building Communities (Routledge Revivals): The Co-operative Way by Johnston Birchall at Arts-Photography

Description

Everyone has a memoir in miniature in at least one piece of clothing. In Worn Stories; Emily Spivack has collected over sixty of these clothing-inspired narratives from cultural figures and talented storytellers. First-person accounts range from the everyday to the extraordinary; such as artist Marina Abramovic on the boots she wore to walk the Great Wall of China; musician Rosanne Cash on the purple shirt that belonged to her father; and fashion designer Cynthia Rowley on the Girl Scout sash that informed her business acumen. Other contributors include Greta Gerwig; Heidi Julavits; John Hodgman; Brandi Chastain; Marcus Samuelsson; Piper Kerman; Maira Kalman; Sasha Frere-Jones; Simon Doonan; Albert Maysles; Susan Orlean; Andy Spade; Paola Antonelli; David Carr; Andrew Kuo; and more. By turns funny; tragic; poignant; and celebratory; Worn Stories offers a revealing look at the clothes that protect us; serve as a uniform; assert our identity; or bring back the pastmdash;clothes that are encoded with the stories of our lives.

Each example is full page with smaller various examples of that same candidate scattered throughout the info page. The paper quality is wonderful and does a great service to the posters overall appearance. Posters include losers as well. I love love this book! Wish there were more just like this! Bravo!4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Presidential Campaign posters and historyBy gt surberThe one hundred posters of many USA presidential campaigns are well done; and worth framing for a historical office. Surprisingly both losers and third party posters are well represented. There is fascinating; eclectic data on each of the US presidential campaigns; along with smaller images of many more posters. For a American History teacher who wants their student to feel the styles of the various periods with rotating images this would be an excellent investment. For an American History buff; this is a wonderful addition to the library.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A beautiful gift for "political junkees"By Nancy on Staten IslandThis is a very large and heavy book that was beautifully produced by the Library of Congress full of colorful campaign posters and lots of information about losers as well as winners in Presidential elections. It is a perfect gift for anyone who loves Presidential politics like my brother; who is bouncing off the walls with excitement years before the next Presidential election currently is avidly following the talk about 2016 (heres looking at you Mrs. Clinton and Mr. Christie). Of course he loved this book and is enjoying looking at it. It made a great birthday gift; since its more of a lavish coffee table book than something one would buy for oneself.
