Building Jerusalem: Art; Industry and the British Millennium

[DOC] Building Jerusalem: Art; Industry and the British Millennium by John Pick in Arts-Photography

Description

Christmas Eve; 1951. As Britain rebuilds itself after the war; John Greenwood has it all ndash; a successful business; a beautiful house and an aristocratic wife. But as he bids farewell to the guests leaving his annual Christmas party; a gust of wind slams the front door shut; starting a chain of events that makes him doubt everything he has ever known...From the writer of one of the twentieth centuryrsquo;s most acclaimed plays; Journeyrsquo;s End; The White Carnation is a ghostly tale of one manrsquo;s chance to do things differently. This rediscovery marks the first production since its premiere; starring Sir Ralph Richardson; in 1953 and transfers to the Jermyn Street Theatre after a critically acclaimed sell-out run at the Finborough Theatre.

General history book - snipitsBy mitzi357Great general history of the area; told in snippits as in news articles.Author is familiar with the areas in question; has actually been there and done interviews; and has done a lot of research to try to get things right. In one case; a bit deeper research could have been done rather than taking prior books on the subject as correctly factual. The writing is well developed; easy to follow; well organized; and a boon to anyone wanting a quick history of the area. I found it refreshing; and the viewpoint of a newcomer to the area was well taken. This is not a history written from just a fact collector - this is a history written from someone on the ground in the area.Well done!I enjoyed it so much that I bought a second copy to ship to my family for their enjoyment :)0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very interesting book!By Randy W.This book had some very interesting stories and facts about the Everglades and surrounding areas. Having grown up fishing around the area (and still fishing there); I can really appreciate the history and importance of the Everglades. This is a great book for anyone interested in the area; or for those that have been there.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Little master pieceBy Andres F. RodriguezPresentation of Maureen Hartung-Sullivan of her book in a local bookstore. If you really want to know about Everglades City. Here is this little master piece in journalism research that prudently approaches every single issue this small town has experienced over the years and how it has overcome every single one and conserves its unique southern flavor; incredible sea food and breath-taking landscapes.
